Sunday 30th August 2008: 6th day of the trip. Walking and camping on mountaintop Navaren.
Arriving on the top of mountain Navaren (point 14) with a small backpack.
Mountaincol (8) on the left and Kjerkfjorden (18) on the right.
After a long sleep I started to pack my backpack. It was nice weather, the perfect day to
walk up to a mountain top, place my tent on the top and sleep there. I did only have a small
backpack with me.
My small down sleeping bag, food, cooking equipment and enough clothes (to face freezing
temperatures) did find a place inside the backpack. The tent, 2 mattrasses and a thermosbottle
were fixed on the small backpack with straps.
There are none walking paths going up to the mountaintop Navaren (730 meters a.s.l.).
I know a little bit how the route goes to the top, some years ago a did a nice mountaintravers from
Reine-Reinebringen-Navaren-Djupfjorden. I walked down then what I am walking up now.
At 550 meter a.s.l. I finished the last steep parts of the walk/scramble. Here is also the last place
to find fresh drinking water. The last part to the top is easy walking. The view on the top is great.
Maybe the best view there is over Reine and the Reine fjorden. See the pictures.
Looking out over Reine from mountain Navaren.
Pitching the tent on the top of Navaren.
What a view, summer and winter on Lofoten in one picture!
After pitching my tent I saw that the clouds were gathering together on the west coast, the ocean side.
This could be become a nice sunset !!!
After some time the sunset started. It was sad that I didn't have my good camera and my tripod with me
(no place for this in the sea-kayak). But the pictures from my waterproof camera are not bad.
Seeing a beautiful sunset from a mountaintop is something special. I was lucky to be at the right
place at the right moment. Enjoy the pictures!!
The start of the Sunset.
Sunset between Hermanndalstinden (left) and Brynliskardtinden (right).
